BaZi Day Master - Jia Wood 甲木 - Yang Wood

Wood (Chinese: 木; pinyin: mù), sometimes translated as Tree, is the growing of the matter, or the matter's growing stage.[1] Wood is the first phase of Wu Xing. Wood is yang in character. It stands for springtime, the east, the planet Jupiter, the color blue, green, wind, and the Azure Dragon (Qing Long) in Four Symbols.

The Wu Xing are chiefly an ancient mnemonic device for systems with 5 stages; hence the preferred translation of "tree" over "wood"

In Chinese Taoist thought, Wood attributes are considered to be strength and flexibility, as with bamboo. It is also associated with qualities of warmth, generosity, co-operation and idealism. The Wood person will be expansive, outgoing and socially conscious. The wood element is one that seeks ways to grow and expand. Wood heralds the beginning of life, springtime and buds, sensuality and fecundity. Wood needs moisture to thrive.

In Chinese medicine, wood is associated with negative feelings of anger, positive feelings of patience, and altruism. Organs associated with this element are the liver (yin), gall bladder (yang), eyes, and tendons.

In Chinese astrology, wood is included in the 10 heavenly stems (the five elements in their [[Wikipedia:yin and yang|yin and yang]] forms), which combine with the 12 Earthly Branches (or Chinese signs of the zodiac), to form the 60 year cycle. Yang years end in 4 (e.g. 1974) while Yin years end in 5 (e.g. 1975). Wood governs the Chinese zodiac signs Tiger, Rabbit and Dragon. Some Western astrologers have argued for an association between wood and the element Ether, on the grounds that ether is associated with Jupiter in Vedic Astrology.

Cycle of Wu Xing

In the regenerative cycle of the Wu Xing, water engenders Wood, "as rain or dew makes plant life flourish"; Wood begets fire as "fire is generated by rubbing together two pieces of wood" and it must be fueled by burning wood.

In the conquest cycle, Wood overcomes earth by binding it together with the roots of trees and drawing sustenance from the soil; metal overcomes Wood, as the metal axe can topple the largest trees.[3]

The Wood Element is associated with Spring, the time when new shoots begin to push their heads up through the soil. All vegetation is represented by the Wood Element. Wood suggests the creative principal, the feminine principal, and new beginnings of all kinds.

Yin Wood represents the strength that it takes for a new shoot to push up through the ground, a chick needs to break through the hard shell of an egg, or a baby needs to come out into the world. Yin Wood represents also growth and development.

Yang Wood represents the planting of the seed, the moment of conception, the essence of creation.

Wood periods are a time for healing, for bestowing favours, for helping others, for beginning projects and time for initial growth both personally and professionally.

Wood people tend to be benefactors. They are drawn to the helping professions. They assist those less fortunate than themselves. Wood people prefer to work and play in a cooperative environment. While they make good leaders, they lead by gaining the cooperation of others rather than expecting them to be obedient. Wood people are not big on discipline for the sake of discipline. Wood people are usually motivated by a higher purpose.

Yang/Wood people tend to be more creative. They are good at starting things but usually prefer that others finish what has been started.

The emotion of Wood is anger, and the organ system is the Liver along with its related organ system, the Gallbladder. Its colour is green and its shape is upright rectangular. Wood is associated with growth, especially new growth,as its associated time of year is Spring.

Signs of Wood disharmony include irritability and vision problems.

Wood people may tend to have a temper especially if frustrated. The sense organ is the eyes and might tend to have 'blind spots' in their world view.

In the Nourishing cycle,Wood nourishes Fire and is nourished by Water.

Wood people would find the colour green, vertical shapes, and live plants in their environment all contributing to overall harmony. Pictorially, Jia Wood represents tree. Tree is tall, thick, and sturdy. Trees grow upwardly to the sky. Tree is externally thick and branching out. When the Ji Earth has too much water in the chart, they need Jia Wood to help them holding the earth back to shape.

When a Jia Wood person has Geng Metal (axe) in the chart, usually this person is successful one because the Jia Wood is chopped into pieces to make beautiful chairs, tables, papers, etc - useful Jia Wood.

Belong to pine and cypress and big tree, strong and powerful. From the way trees extend themselves to reach sunlight for growth, Jia people will spend efforts to plan and develop in order to move upward from their current situation. Moreover their roots are always rooted firmly in the ground; they are not easily wavered by strong winds. The characteristics of Jia people are that they have strong willpower, are outspoken, will not give up easily even encountered some setbacks. They are righteous and not the type who will beat around the bush. They like to upkeep morals and reputation. Their character is also steady and down to earth. Hence they are not frivolous and they are not slipshod in their work.

No matter what they do, they have a strong sense of responsibility and are of honorable people, and seldom get wavered by temptations. (乙Yi)Yin Wood is like a shrub or grass, tactful and unyielding, ever growing. Like a small plant growing up softly and curly, and emitting as a beautiful and gorgeous flower. Yi people are meek and mild, rich in expression ability, can distinguish reality and like to seek improvement and development in one’s own environment. As in a small plant or flower, it would react and respond very sensitively to any small changes of conditions or the environment. Yi people are very quick-witted and have very fast adaptability in any change of circumstances. Yi people are that they can coordinate very well and will not insist on their own opinions.

Although they can be very modest, they tend to be possessive at heart and are very careful and meticulous. Like a little flower, they may appear weak but can still grow well in a harsh environment. When typhoon happens, the small plants will swing and waver with it. They will not wither easily even though trodden, as long as their roots are still intact. From this instance, we can see that Yi people are very flexible but can also be realistic too. In terms of financial aspect, Yi people can spend efforts to save well, they would not waste easily and can be quite stubborn about this. Shortcomings are that they have a timid personality and very dependent on others. Though they may be creative, things or events may not happen as they wished. Hence these problems may cause them to be distressed and lose self-confidence. Besides, they are likely to go against their own feelings and thoughts to follows others, swayed by temptations and may be deceived or mislead by others easily.

If you are a Jia Day Master, you have qualities of a Tree. Imagine what a Big Tall Tree looks like. In this way, Jia Day Masters characteristics are such that they will exert themselves to plan and develop in order to move upward from their current situation.

They are steady, strong and upright and have strong will-powered, and will not be easily swayed. They may appeared as unfeeling, not because they are heartless but because they do not tune to what is going around them.

Since their roots are always firmly rooted in the ground, Jia people are reluctant to changes, and if changing circumstances are forced upon them, it will be slow and gradual. Contrary to this, due to the Tree’s growth nature, they are always slowly changing, however, not easily seen. They can also be stubborn and not as quick-witted as other day masters.
