Long, long ago, there was a young couple. The husband was heavily built and smart. He was a good hunter and also a good farmer. Moreover, he was a good singer and a good dancer. The wife was beautiful, intelligent and good-hearted. They lived in peace and happiness.
One day, the husband cut a small segment of bamboo, with which he made a whistling chip for his pretty wife. From then on, they were heard playing the whistling chip. Believe it or not, the whistling chip gave a varied sound in response to the change in mood and the change in weather.
Unfortunately, the husband fell over a cliff while hunting and died, and this broke his wife,s heart. Whenever she missed her husband, she put the whistling bamboo chip into her mouth and whistled to express her sorrow.
With the elapse of time, women in the mountainous area developed the habit of playing the bamboo whistles.
Each is 13 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. It gives a melodious sound which is often heard with the rising of the sun in the morning, the setting of the sun in the evening, with the smiling of the moon at night....
