Kukkutapada Mount 鶏足山 (Skt; Jpn Keisoku-sen)

Also known as Mount Kukkutapada or Mount Gurupadaka. A mountain in the state of Magadha in ancient India, where Mahakashyapa, one of Shakyamuni's ten major disciples, died. The name of Mount Kukkutapada was rendered into Chinese as Chicken Leg Mountain, and Mount Gurupadaka as Honored Foot Mountain. The Chinese priest Fa-hsien, who traveled to India to study the Buddhist scriptures in the beginning of the fifth century, described the mountain as a dangerous place inhabited by tigers, wolves, and other savage animals. Tradition has it that Mahakashyapa is still living on Mount Kukkutapada and waiting for the appearance of the future Buddha, Maitreya; when Maitreya appears, Mahakashyapa will present him with Shakyamuni Buddha's robe.
