Shinga
真雅 (801–879)

    Also known as the Administrator of Priests Jogan-ji.

A priest of the True Word (Shingon) school in Japan and the founder of Jogan-ji temple in Kyoto.

In 809 he renounced secular life and studied Esoteric Buddhism under his elder brother, Kobo, the founder of the True Word school.

In 825 he was invested with the rank of ajari (Skt acharya ), or teacher, in Esoteric Buddhism.

In 847 he was appointed superintendent of Todai-ji temple, and in 860 became the chief priest of To-ji temple.

In 862 he founded Jogan-ji temple in the capital, Kyoto, and in 864 he was appointed administrator of priests.

After Kobo's death, he became an influential leader in the True Word school and headed Shingon -in temple at Todai-ji.

He was often called on by the rulers to perform esoteric rituals for the protection of the country. He wrote The Treatise on the Womb Realm.
