Engo (Jap.) Yuan-wu (Chin.) : Chinese Zen Master (1063–1135). Famous for his comments and ‘Introductory Words’ to a hundred cases or sayings of earlier Chinese masters collected by Setcho (q.v.). Engo’s pupils collected the total material and in 1125 published it as the Hekigan Roku (q.v.) or Blue Cliff Records.
