In Accordance with the Dhamma (4)

translated from the Pali by
Thanissaro Bhikkhu

[1-2] At Savatthi.

[3] "For a monk practicing the Dhamma
in accordance with the Dhamma,
what accords with the Dhamma is this:
that he keep focused on not-self with regard to form, that he keep focused on not-self with regard to feeling, that he keep focused on not-self with regard to perception, that he keep focused on not-self with regard to fabrications, that he keep focused on not-self with regard to consciousness. As he keeps focusing on not-self with regard to form... feeling... perception... fabrications... consciousness,
he comprehends form,
he comprehends feeling,
he comprehends perception,
he comprehends fabrications,
he comprehends consciousness.

[5] As he comprehends form,
as he comprehends feeling,
as he comprehends perception,
as he comprehends fabrications,
as he comprehends consciousness,
he is totally released from form,
he is totally released from feeling,
he is totally released from perception,
he is totally released from fabrications,
he is totally released from consciousness.

He is totally released
from sorrows, lamentations,
pains, distresses,
and despairs.

He is totally released, I tell you,
from suffering and stress."
