China is also a Buddhist country since Buddhism entered China in Han Dynasty.

Unlike local religions like Taoism, Buddhism is an exotic religion, but over the past thousands of years, Buddhism in China has been gradually localized and strongly featured by Chinese culture and history, especially in Tang Dynasty, such a trend was more obvious.

Surely it is an important part of Chinese religious culture and Chinese cultural and historic heritage.

Thanks to the extensive influence of Buddhism, Chinese culture is so sophisticated and Chinese people are so kind-hearted and versatile.

Emei Mountain, a World Natural and Cultural Heritage in China, is located in Emeishan City of Sichuan Province. It is in the southwest of Sichuan Basin.

It is in the upstream-section of Yangtze River.

Emei Mountain is the famous tourism destination and famous Buddhist Mountain, which is one of four famous Buddhist Mountains...Jiuhua Buddhist Mountain scenic area is situated in Chizhou of Anhui Province.

Jiuhua Mountain is the top-class attraction all around the world and an important international Buddhist holy-land.

Since Han Dynasty, this famous mountain has accumulated so many splendid cultural and religious legacies that it became the famous mountain of landscape, history, culture and Buddhism.

In the process of its development, Jiuhua Mountain won a lot of honors.

Since Ming Dynasty, it has been one of four famous Buddhist Mountains all around China.


It is considered as the Land of Buddha and Lotus.

Emei Mountain, a World Natural and Cultural Heritage in China, is located in Emeishan City of Sichuan Province.

Emei Mountain is steep and of a high altitude. The climate zone is dispatched clearly according to the different mountain sites.

Altitude from 1500 meters to 2100 meters belongs to warm temperate-zone climate and Altitude from 2100 meters to 2500 meters belongs to medium temperate-zone climate.

The area with altitude above 2000 meters is covered by snow and ice for half a year, generally from August to April next year. The different climate shows in different altitude.

The main peak of Emei Mountain, Wanfoding Peak has 3079.3 meters. Climbers generally need to walk for nearly one-hundred miles, so the weak-man is hard to get to the summit.

Recently it was installed the ropeway for mountaineering, the tourist can easily get to the peak and enjoy the heavenly scene.

The magnificent scenery of sunrise, cloud-sea, Buddha ray and the holy light are available. In 1982, Emeishan Scenic Area is listed to be the first group of state-level scenic protection area.

In 1996, Emei Mountain together with Leshan-Mountain Big Buddha Statue was listed to be one of natural and cultural heritages in China.

In 2007, it became one of the state-level Five-A scenic area. T

he total area of Emei Mountain scenic zone is 154 square kilometers.

It is comprised of four mountains like Dae Mountain and so on. The attractions of Emei Mountain are diverse and colorful.

Getting into Emei Mountain, the firs feeling is unearthliness. It is another world indeed!
 

The kinds of animals and plants are diverse and rich with the title of Ancient Plant Kingdom.

The coverage of Emei Mountain is thick and dense. According to analysis, there are 3700 kinds of plants.

Thanks to its special landform, sufficient rainfall, diverse climates and complicated soil structures, it is the best habitat for many species to increase and exist.

Some one said the amount of plants is equal to the sum of all the plants in Europe.

Among the plants, living fossils of plants include Gongtong and Shaluo.

The famous plants in Emei Mountain include:


Lengshan tree,
Hongchun tree and
Zhenglan Tree.


The diversity of orchids and azaleas also enriches the plant-circle of Emei Mountain.

The large amount of bamboo forests and many rare herb plants is exclusively here.

The rare animals, like giant panda, black marabou, bobtail monkey, little panda, withered-leaf butterfly, has the total number of 2300 kinds. Emei Mountain Wild Monkey Reserve is China’s largest monkey reserve.
 

Emei Mountain is one of China’s four great Buddhist Holy-Lands.

It is said that the Buddhism entered Emei Mountain in the first century. During the period of East Han Dynasty, there was some Taoist Temples.

In the early period of Jin Dynasty, Buddhism came to Emei Mountain. Emei Mountain is said to be sutra-teaching place of Panxian Bodhisattva, so it is mainly for this Buddha.

According to the illustration of sutra, Puxian Bodhisattva is the chief assistant of Sakyamuni, its name means the virtue. Puxian Bodhisattva in commoners’ image is riding an elephant with six teeth.

The Buddhism in Emei Mountain belongs to Mahayana, which is an important part of Buddhism. Additionally, its music is very impressive and unique.

Buddhism in the past 2000 years leaves Emei Mountain rich cultural heritages on Buddhism and also raised a lot of Buddhist masters, which make Emei Mountain become the world-influential Buddhist Holy-Land.

There are around 300 monks and 30 temples. The famous temples are Baoguo Temple, Fuhu Temple, Leiyin Temple, Chunyang Temple and so on.

The Buddha statues of temples in mud, jade, wood, iron, bronze, porcelain and son are excellent examples of ancient art levels.

The statue of Puxian Bodhisattva riding the white elephant was made in Song Dynasty, more than 1000 years ago. It has the weight of 62 ton and height of 7.85 meters.

Kongfu of Emei Mountain is equal to that of Shaolin and Wudang in China.


It is an authoritative martial art school.
 

Jiuhua Buddhist Mountain is a historic and cultural mountain.

During Tang Dynasty, great poet Li Po was invited to visit Jiuhua Mountain.

He watched the Lotus Peak and recited some classic poems. Thanks to his poems, Jiuhua Mountain was finalized to be this name up to now. After Li Po, there were many great literators or scholars shown their preference to this great mountain.

Innumerous relics and cultural sites will heighten your impression.
 
Jiuhua Mountain is one of international Buddhist holy-lands. In 401, the first monk came to Jiuhua Mountain was a foreign one, who came from Xinluo, one small country in Korean Peninsula in the past.

He was the founder of Buddhism in Jiuhua Mountain, and 75 years later, he passed away but his body was not rotten at all.

Hence he was respected as Dizang Bodhisattva. Currently, there are 99 temples. Among them, 9 temples are national key ones and 30 are provincial.

[There are more than 1000 monks and nuns there. The number of reserved josses is over 10,000, so it is also considered to be the Buddha land with lotus.

The unique local culture and mystery are the most attractive points in Jiuhua Mountain.

The Buddhist history with more than 1,000 years brings Jiuhua Mountain a large number of rare treasures. The unrotten monk-bodies are the mystery in human being.

Jiuhua Buddhist Mountain is also one of famous scenic spots in China with the coverage of 120 square kilometers, innumerous streams, waterfalls, caves, pine-trees and stones are also one part of its attraction.

On June 26, 2009, Wutai Mountain (Five Terrace Mountain) was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List during the 33rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Seville, Spain.

UNESCO commented Mt. Wutai was a sacred Buddhist mountain.

Wutai Mountain is located in the northeast of Shanxi province, which belongs to the north part of Taihang Mountains. It is one of the four great Buddhist Mountains.

The other three are Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang, Emei Mountain in Sichuan and Jiuhua Mountain in Anhui.
 
Wutai Mountain is the highest mountain in northern China.

The lowest point is only 624 meter and highest one is 3061 meters.

The climate of Wutai Mountain is very cold. The annual average temperature is only minus 4 degrees.

The hottest months are July and August, but the average temperature just 9 degrees. Hence, if you are going to visit this mountain, cold-resistance preparation will be necessary
 

It is cold in winter and cool in summer, so it is also called Qingliangshan Mountain, which is currently a famous tourism destination featuring of natural landscape, historical relics, ancient architectures, Buddhist culture, folk customs and summer resort.

It was awarded to be national key places of interest, and one of the ten most famous mountains in China.

It is also the national natural and cultural heritage. It is now the national five-A tour area.

Famous as its time-honored history in temple establishment and the large scale, it is crowned as the first place of the four greatest Buddhist Mountains, generally called Golden Wutai Holy-Land.

It is also famous in Burma, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

The temples of Wutai Mountain was built in 57(in East Han Dynasty of China)In Tang dynasty, due to the boom of Wenshu-Bodhisattva Belief, there were 360 temples on the mountains.

The famous festivals include: Tiaobuzha around 15th June by lunar calendar.

This festival is originated from Tibet; it is one of the most important Buddhist ceremonies in Wutai Mountain.

The day before the festival, the Lama monks in temples began reading or reciting the sutra and having a Jinggang(金刚) dance for cracking down the ghosts on the Bodhisattva Summit.

On the 15th, June, hundreds of monks walk along the streets. The front is kept a Bodhisattva Statue, the most respectable monk takes the sedan and two lama monks ride horses.

The rest play the Buddhist music to go to the ceremonial place, Luomuhou Temple for God-Dancing. On the 16th, they kill ghosts on the Bodhisattva Peak.

Also in June each year, the Mule-Horse Fair is hold , this is another grand festival each year, many large Buddhist ceremonies is available; many folk cultural performances are also attracting many people from different areas. During this time, businessmen have the deal with one another for mule and horse business.

 Putuo Buddhist Mountain is one of islands of Zhoushan Archipelago in Ningbo of East China, which is comprised of 1390 islands. The total area of Putuo Mountian is 12.93 square kilometers.

It is one of China’s four great Buddhist Mountains. Putuo Mountain is the first group of national key places of interests, generally called Buddhism Heaven on the sea and the Holy-land on South Sea.

It is a Five-A tourism destination in China. The immortal mountains in clouds and waters offer travelers the feeling of mystery, strangeness, and sanctity.

Putuo Mountain is a famous Kwan-yin Ceremony center in China.

Such a religion ceremony is traced back to Qin Dynasty, the original Taoist Temple sites are easily found and the elixir-making sites are also found easily.

In 847, an Indian Monk visited Chao-Yin Cave and was influenced by Kwan-yin Buddha, since then the Buddhist sites were established. There are 3 large temples, 88 Nun Temples and 128 thatched temples.

There are more than 4000 monks; it is crowned to be the first Buddhist land in China.

On 19th in the second month each year by lunar calendar, it is the birthday of Kwan-Yin, on 19th in the sixth month by Lunar Calendar, it is the day of Kwan-yin getting the Buddhism tenet and on 19th in the ninth month by Lunar Calendar, and it is the day that Kwan-yin became Buddha.

On these days, the Buddhist believers from all directions are gathering here for commemorating these Buddhist Events, the ceremony is splendid and amazing and full of sublimity and solemnity.

The time-honored Buddhist Ceremony accumulated deep Buddhism culture and history.

Nearly all the people are respecting Kwan-yin Buddha. Kwan-yin Belief has been considered to be Half-Asia Belief.
 

Putuo Mountain is surrounded by sea with the unique landscape. It is called Sea-isle Arboretum. There are 66 kinds of trees with more than 100 years age. Many rare trees in local can be found there.

Three major temples in Putuo Mountain are Puji Temple, Fayu Temple and Huiji Temple.

The symbols of Putuo Mountain are Kwan-yin Bronzy Statue, Purple Bamboo Zone, and in summer, there was also one of famous summer-place, Baibusha, a bathing place.
 
More than 2000 years ago, Putuo Mountain was the best place for Taoistscultivation.

One of the Taoism leaders, Ge Hong also selected this place for his site. It was also the important part of Silk-Road on the sea in Ancient China.

Early in Tang Dynasty, it is the important place for exchange between China and Japan, Korea and countries in Southeast Asia.

Many a celebrity such as Lu You, a famous patriot and a famous poet in South Song Dynasty; Dong Qichang, a famous official who was good at painting and calligraphy.

A large number of rare and treasured stone inscriptions are available.

The cultural relics here are very rich.

The Buddhism in Putuo Mountain was also emphasized by the rulers or emperors in different dynasties.

Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang in Ming Dynasty and Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty used to present them gifts or give a high-level treatment.
 

The best time for visit is autumn.

In November each year, South-Sea Kwan-Yin Cultural Festival is opened.

It is one of three tourism festivals in Zhoushan.

On the three Kwan-yin Special Ceremony Days, it is most welcome and popular period. There was a famous story to show the influence of Buddhism in Putuo Mountain.

On Spetember, 29 by Lunar Calendar in 1997, South-sea Kwan-yin open-air Bronzy Statue was established in the densely cloudy day.

Suddenly, it sharply became sunny and shining as soon as Miao shan Monk-master declared the opening information. It is an amazing story!
