At Omega, this afternoon my heart overflows

with deep love for these soul- friends who I have met, and renewed energy and vision for my own life path. This is going to flow into two entries-- the events of all this week will produce material for several poems.

This entry: turning poison into medicine.

I've discovered more thoroughly, how everything can be workable, if we stay open and curious. At that moment of not knowing-- finding a way to own my own shadow, to release the cords of others' faults, to continue to open and trust. Letting emotional energy simply be weather patterns: heat, pressure, earth and cool rain. Staying open and curious-- So that passion can become compassion, and anger can become the wisdom that cuts through illusion. Snake medicine.

From David Carson and Jamie Sims' Medicine Cards:
The power of snake medicine is the power of creation, for it embodies sexuality, psychic energy, alchemy and reproduction.

The transmutation of the life-death-rebirth cycle is exemplified by the shedding of Snake's skin. Snake medicine is the energy of wholeness, cosmic consciousness and the ability to experience anything willingly and without resistance. It is the knowledge that all things are equal in creation. Those things which might be experienced as poison can be eaten, integrated and transmuted if one has the proper state of mind.

In alchemy the symbology of two snakes intertwining around a sword represents healing. Through accepting all aspects of your life you can bring about the transmutation of the fire medicine-- in thought, action or desire so that wholeness can be achieved.

In Tibetan tradition, transmutation is represented by the Vajrayana path, and the dakini. The dakini uses her entire body to teach, holding nothing back. She wears revealing clothing, and a necklace of skulls. The heightened emotional energy of desire and fear is the most powerful catalyst for awakening.

From Carson and Sims,

The fire energy, when functioning on the material plane, creates passion, desire, and physical vitality. On the emotional plane it becomes ambition, creation, resolution,

tolerance. On the mental plane it becomes intellect, power, charisma, and leadership. When the snake energy reaches the spiritual plane it becomes wisdom, understanding, wholeness and connection to the Great Spirit.

Snake medicine reversed is a masking of fear of change due to the period of discomfort that may result. It shows that it is necessary to release static continuity and old patterns.

Like a snake, I release my skin, and open to new life. Posted 17th August 2007 by JiHyang Padma
