 Ji Gong, whose religious name was originally "Daoji", was a Buddhist monk in the Southern Song Dynasty. Due to his violation of Buddhist doctrines, addiction to alcohol and meat, and maniac behaviors, he has also been known as the "Lunatic Monk Ji". In a large number of legends about him, he is always ready to help others and defend for justice in humorous and playful ways; he has become a legendary figure with enormous magic power.
