About
The Chinese Buddhist Association of NSW initially known as the "Prajna Temple" was established in 1972 under Chinese Buddhist Society of Australia founded by Mr. Changxing Liao on which he late invited Venerable Xiao Yun from Taiwan to be the first Dharma master of this association from 9th August 1972. The aim of the establishment of the society is to “Study Buddhism & Promote Buddhism”. Although it is under the name of “Chinese Buddhist society”, there is no restriction to the race or background of its members. Both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhist teachings are made available to its members. The society has contributed to the inheritance and development of Buddhism in Australia over its 40 stormy years since it was established.
Since 1983 up to today, the name of Prajna Temple has been changed to Prajna Monastery, Ding Hui Dharma Centre and Ding Hui Monastery chronologically. In 1993, the Chinese Buddhist society changes the name to "Chinese Buddhist Association of NSW Inc.". When registered at the local council. It has become the official name ever since.
Due to the Dharma of impermanence, our Association has moved to a number of places, and in 2014 it relocated its centre to 3 Shelley St, Campsie NSW with the approval of Canterbury council of NSW.
Over the years, our association has invited many well-known Buddhist Masters from all over the world to provide support and guidance to the centre. With the contribution of four abbots and six dharma masters, the association has been keeping its determination in practicing humanistic Buddhism.
Today, apart from conducting rituals celebrating Buddhas & Bodhisattvas birthdays, our association also provides weekend activities include chanting, meditation, dharma talks and excursion. There are also many other forms of activities such as visiting Nursing homes, hospitals, as well as fortnight visits to the prison, orientation for new citizens or migrants to enable them easily interact with others in the new environment. From 2012, the association started to offer free-of-charge Sunday Chinese language class for kids. In summary, the association aims at escorting and helping the needy in all means.
We sincerely hope that our association will continue to contribute even more for the world peace, human happiness, national stability and social wellness and harmony.
We pray for the light of Buddhism, constant turning of the Dharma Wheel, world peace and human happiness. May all living beings be enlightened by Buddha’s wisdom.
