Dzogchen teacher Chögyal Namkhai Norbu to talk on Tibetan Buddhism at the UAB

Dzogchen or "great perfection" is the essence of all Tibetan spiritual traditions. On 15 May (new date), Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, professor of the Istituto Universitario Orientale de Nàpols and expert in this tradition, will be offering a conference at the UAB.

On 15 May (new date), the auditorium of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities will host a conference by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, emeritus professor of the Istituto Universitario Orientale de Nàpols. His conference, which will be in English, is entitled"Tibetan Buddhism: Sutra, Tandra and Dzogchen". The event has been organised by the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting and will take place at 11 a.m.

Chögyal Namkhai Norbu is a leading authority on the ancient history of Tibet and one of the most renowned living Dzogchen teachers. He will speak on Tibetan Buddhism based on his learnings which he acquired already in his childhood from some of the most important Tibetan masters of his time. He belongs to the last generation of Tibetans to receive this type of traditional education.

At the invitation of Giuseppe Tucci, Italian scholar of oriental cultures and archaeologist specialising in Tibet and the history of Buddhism, he moved to Italy in 1960. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu is an expert in the history, literature, traditional medicine and astrological sciences of Tibet. He has trained numerous translators and supervised the translation of several ancient texts on Tibetan Buddhism.

His book The Crystal and the Way of Light: Sutra, Tantra and Dzogchen represented the first work of a Tibetan Lama in Western languages on the spiritual tradition of Dzogchen, or "great perfection", which makes up the essence of all spiritual traditions of Tibet, transmitted traditionally from teacher to pupil and consisting in the teaching of the natural method with which to discover the fundamental state and natural condition of all living being.
