Jikishoan Zen Buddhist Community

Ekai Osho

Jikishoan is a growing community of people studying and practising Soto Zen Buddhism under the guidance of Zen Master Ekai Korematsu Osho. Ekai Osho is the Abbot of Jikishoan Zen Buddhist Community and the principal teacher of all courses and workshops. He has practised and taught Zen Buddhism in Japan, the USA and India for over 30 years, and in Australia since 1999. Jikishoan runs a range of programs throughout the year, which are conducted in the spirit of Bendoho – the original way of practice as prescribed by Dogen Zenji in the 13th Century. Jikishoan is located in Melbourne, Australia. Newcomers with an interest in Zen meditation and practice in daily life are always welcome.

Sanzenkai (Meditation)

Sanzenkai

Join us for Sanzenkai (meditation) from 5:30-7:30pm on Sunday evenings at the Australian Shiatsu College, 105 Evans Street, Brunswick. The Sanzenkai program includes walking and sitting meditation (zazen), Sutra chanting, a tea ceremony and a Dharma talk. On your first visit, please arrive by 5:15pm so our guest manager can give a brief introduction and instruction. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended. A donation for Sanzenkai may be made in the spirit of generosity. You are welcome to join us after Sanzenkai for a vegetarian meal and informal chat with Jikishoan members and friends. Sanzenkai is also held at the Footscray zendo from 7pm-9pm on Thursday evenings and includes zazen, kinhin, tea, Sutra chanting and a reading. If you have any questions about Sanzenkai, please contact Jikishoan. Please note Sanzenkai is not held during retreat periods.

Retreats

Retreats

Jikishoan holds a number of residential retreats each year, with resident teacher and Abbott Ekai Korematsu Osho. These seven-day retreats provide a period of concentrated Zen practice, conducted mostly in silence.

The daily routine is structured around periods of zazen (sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation), oryoki (traditional meal practice), samu (work practice) and teisho (daily talks) by Ekai Osho. Personal interviews with Ekai Osho are also available.

If you would like to speak with someone about Jikishoan retreats, please contact Jikishoan.

Retreats are held at the Adekate Centre, Dean near Ballarat.

A bus service runs from Tullamarine Airport to Creswick, near Adekate. Tickets for the bus can be purchased online through the Airport Shuttle Bus site.

Integrated Buddhist Studies Program

You are invited to participate in the Zen and Integrated Buddhist Studies program (IBS), which is entering it’s 6th year in 2015.

The IBS Outline explains the three courses which form the IBS program: Course A, Course B and Course C.

Usually a new student begins with Course A, enrolling in a term, or for an entire year. However, if you are already a member of Jikishoan or have previously been an IBS student, you may apply to enrol either formally, or informally as a nominal or non-credit student in Course A, B or C.

A Day of Practice

These workshops consist of a general introduction to Buddhist meditation and instruction in zazen (sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation) and bowing practice.

The workshops will be of interest to people who are looking for a sound introductory experience to Zen Buddhism and also experienced people, wanting to consolidate their practice. Workshops are held approximately seven times per year.
