The Linh Son Buddhist Association is dedicated to the introduction of Buddhism and Buddhist teachings.

Associated with other Buddhist organisations, throughout the year, the Linh Son Buddhist Association Inc holds many events and activities at the Temple or elsewhere in order to promote Buddhism to wider community, to enhance social harmony and to celebrate the cultural diversity of Australia.

The Linh Son Buddhist Association also offers many spiritual services to the local community.

History of Linh Son

The Linh Son Buddhist Association Inc in Queensland, Australia, located at 89 Rowe Terrace, Darra is a branch of the World Linh Son Buddhist Congregation.

When Tri Loi Nun arrived from France in 1985, she bought an old tottering house in Darra to set up as a simple temple as per wishes of compatriot Buddhist worshippers in Brisbane . The temple is located in an area where there are clusters of Vietnamese people gathering around with the convenience of a railway station close by.

Two years later, as per requests from many Buddhist worshippers, the Venerable Trung Chanh agreed to master the temple and conduct Buddhist worshipping services. Activities at the temple have been guided and continuously increased since then. The Venerable Master Huyen Vi, the President of the World Linh Son Buddhist Congregation, has visited and preached at the temple on several occasions.

In 1992, the influx of both financial and personnel support from Buddhist followers, along wih the active campaign of the Venerable Trung Chanh and all the nuns at Linh Son had contributed to the first grand new temple in traditional Buddhist style to be built in Brisbane .

After the Venerable Trung Chanh left Australia for study in 1995, the temple was temporarily mastered by Venerables Tri Loi and Tri Buu, then Venerables Minh Nhu, from Melbourne, and Dieu Anh. Finally, the Venerable Master Huyen Vi appointed the Venerable Tri Luu, who has finished her three year study at Linh Son Buddhist Institute in Paris, to be the Abbess of the temple until now.

Buddhist Studies program in State School

he government allows the teaching of Buddhism during “Religious instruction in school hours (RI) / religious studies (RE)”.

To start with, parents need to give their consent to the school by indicating “Buddhist studies” in the school RI /RE consent form. The school can then seek teachers from “Buddhist Education Service s for Schools Inc” (BESS).

Buddhist Studies” is offered free and will be conducted in English, usually 30 minutes per week . Classes will run during RI/ RE period. Children do not have to be or become Buddhists to benefit from this “Buddhist Studies program”.

The curriculum includes modules on the life of the Buddha and his foundation teachings. Simple meditation instructions at a level suitable for children will also be given. The methodology will be in keeping with contemporary educational thought and practice, involving the children and encouraging co-operation and enjoyment in learning.

The program is to teach universal and moral values, to enhance children ability to better relate well to others, to develop their minds and life skills, so that they have a good chance of leading a meaningful, secure, happy and successful life.

Students will also learn to appreciate and understand various Buddhist cultures around the world and hence promote a more harmonious and caring community.

Teachers of Buddhist Studies are volunteers, usually provided by various Buddhist centres and temples. BESS coordinates their work and education contents, so students can learn Buddhism at a level appropriate to their age.
