projects-new
Of the three great Tibetan monastic universities of the Lhasa area: Gaden, Drepung and Sera, Drepung monastery, founded by Jamyang Chojey Tashi Palden (1379-1449) had its own seven colleges of which Drepung Loseling College was the largest. Drepung Loseling College, established by Acharya Lekden, a direct disciple of Jamyang Chojey, housed some six to nine thousand students at various periods in its history. Following the Chinese invasion over Tibet, a large number of monks from this monastery fled to India and reestablished the monastery in the early 70’s to preserve and maintain the traditional educational program in the refugee monastery in India. Since the monastery has been engaged mainly in providing both the modern and traditional Buddhist education, this educational institute got registered under the Karnataka Society Registration Act, 1976 to gain due recognition of the association and of course to run the association in compliance with the law of the country. Being charitable society, the admission of the interested monks to the society and their rehabilitation in the society is totally free. Anyone interested in studying Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in the society can enroll into it. There is no bar on caste, creed and status for admission to the society..
