Eight Auspicious Substances

སྔོན་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ།

ngön yangdakpar dzokpé sangye shakya tubpa la

Just as in the past the goddess of beauty Prabhāvatī offered a mirror

གཟུགས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་མོ་འོད་འཆང་མས་མེ་ལོང་ཕུལ་བས།

zuk kyi lhamo ö changmelong pulwé

To the completely and perfectly enlightened Buddha Śākyamuni,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་པའི་རྫས་སུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།

trashipé dzé su jingyi labpa dezhindu

Transforming it into an auspicious substance, in the same way, here and now,

དེང་འདིར་ཡང་རབ་ཏུ་གནས་པར་བྱས་པའི་རྟེན་རྣམས་དང་བདག་དང་སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོས་གཙོ་བྱས་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་མེ་ལོང་གི་རྫས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཤིན་ཏུ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

deng dir yang rabtu nepar jepé ten nam dang dak dang jinpé dakpö tso jé semchen tamché melong gi dzé la ten né shintu trashipar gyur chik

Through this substance of the mirror, may everything be perfectly auspicious for all beings, especially the objects of this practice, as well as us and our patrons.


མེ་ལོང་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡིས།

melong yeshe gyatso chenpo yi

This mirror, through the great ocean of wisdom,

ཡེ་ཤེས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་མཆོག་ཏུ་དག་གྱུར་ཏེ།

yeshe gyatso chok tu dak gyur té

Is purified to become supreme, ocean-like wisdom,

རྣམ་དག་ཆོས་ལ་ཐོགས་མེད་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་པའི།

namdak chö la tokmé longchö pé

And phenomena, in their inherent purity, are experienced without obstruction,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་སྒྲིབ་པ་དག་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashikyang dribpa dak gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness may obscurations be purified!

དེ་བཞིན་དུ།

སྔོན་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ།

ngön yangdakpar dzokpé sangye shakya tubpa la

Just as in the past the elephant offered the protective medicine bezoar

གླང་པོ་ཆེས་སྲུང་གིས་སྨན་གི་ཝཾ་ཕུལ་པས།

langpo ché sung gi men gi wam pulpé

To the completely and perfectly enlightened Buddha Śākyamuni,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་པའི་རྫས་སུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།

trashipé dzé su jingyi labpa dezhindu

Transforming it into an auspicious substance, in the same way, here and now,

དེང་འདིར་ཡང་རབ་ཏུ་གནས་པར་བྱས་པའི་རྟེན་རྣམས་དང་བདག་དང་སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོས་གཙོ་བྱས་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་གི་ཝཾ་་གི་རྫས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཤིན་ཏུ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

Through this substance of bezoar, may everything be perfectly auspicious for all beings, especially the objects of this practice, as well as us and our patrons.


གི་ཝཾ་དུག་གསུམ་འཇོམས་པ་ནད་ཀྱི་སྨན།

gi wam duk sum jompa né kyi men

Bezoar, the healing medicine that overcomes three kinds of poison,

སྨན་མཆོག་ཆོས་ཉིད་རབ་ཏུ་རྟོགས་གྱུར་ནས།

men chok chönyi rabtu tok gyur né

Becomes the supreme medicine, thorough understanding of dharmatā,

ཉོན་མོངས་ཟུག་རྔུ་མེད་པར་གྱུར་པ་ཡི།

nyönmong zukngu mepar gyurpa yi

Which eliminates the distress of the destructive emotions.

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཞི་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashikyang dukngal zhi gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness may suffering be pacified!


སྔོན་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ།

ngön yangdakpar dzokpé sangye shakya tubpa la

Just as in the past the farmer’s daughter Sujata offered curds

ཞིང་པའི་བུ་མོ་ལེགས་སྐྱེས་མས་ཞོ་ཕུལ་བས།

zhingpé bumo lekkyé mé zho pulwé

To the completely and perfectly enlightened Buddha Śākyamuni,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་པའི་རྫས་སུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།

trashipé dzé su jingyi labpa dezhindu

Transforming them into an auspicious substance, in the same way, here and now,

དེང་འདིར་ཡང་རབ་ཏུ་གནས་པར་བྱས་པའི་རྟེན་རྣམས་དང་བདག་དང་སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོས་གཙོ་བྱས་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ཞོ་གི་རྫས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཤིན་ཏུ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

Through this substance of curds, may everything be perfectly auspicious for all beings, especially the objects of this practice, as well as us and our patrons.


ཞོ་ནི་ཀུན་གྱི་སྙིང་པོར་གྱུར་པ་སྟེ།

zho ni kün gyi nyingpor gyurpa té

These curds are transformed into the essence of all.

སྙིང་པོ་རྣམ་དག་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྣམས་རྟོགས་ཏེ།

nyingpo namdak yeshe nam tok té

By realizing the wisdoms that are the heart of all and utterly pure,

ཡོན་ཏེན་ཀུན་གྱི་དབྱིངས་སུ་གྱུར་པ་ཡིས།

yön ten kün gyi ying su gyurpa yi

It is transformed into the space of all enlightened qualities.

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་དུག་གསུམ་ཞི་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashikyang duk sum zhi gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness may the three poisons be pacified!


སྔོན་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ།

ngön yangdakpar dzokpé sangye shakya tubpa la

Just as in the past the brahmin Kuṇḍali offered durva grass

བྲམ་ཟེ་ཀུནྜ་ལཱིས་རྩ་དུརྺ་ཕུལ་བས།

dramzé kundali tsa durwa pulwé

To the completely and perfectly enlightened Buddha Śākyamuni,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་པའི་རྫས་སུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།

trashipé dzé su jingyi labpa dezhindu

Transforming it into an auspicious substance, in the same way, here and now,

དེང་འདིར་ཡང་རབ་ཏུ་གནས་པར་བྱས་པའི་རྟེན་རྣམས་དང་བདག་དང་སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོས་གཙོ་བྱས་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་དུརྺ་གི་རྫས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཤིན་ཏུ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

deng dir yang rabtu nepar jepé ten nam dang dak dang jinpé dakpö tso jé semchen tamché durwa gi dzé la ten né shintu trashipar gyur chik

Through this substance of the durwa grass, may everything be perfectly auspicious for all beings, especially the objects of this practice, as well as us and our patrons.


དཱུརྦས་ཚེ་ནི་འཕེལ་བར་བྱེད་པ་སྟེ།

durwé tsé ni pelwar jepa té

Through this durva grass, lifespan is increased,

རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའི་ཚེ་ནི་རབ་བསྒྲུབས་ནས།

dorjé sempé tsé ni rab drub né

Having perfectly attained the longevity of Vajrasattva,

ཉོན་མོངས་སྐྱེ་ཤི་རྒྱུན་ཆད་གྱུར་པ་ཡི།

nyönmong kyeshi gyün ché gyurpa yi

The destructive emotions no longer arise but cease.

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ནི་ཚེ་ཡང་འཕེལ་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashi dé ni tsé yang pel gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness may life be increased!


སྔོན་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ།

ngön yangdakpar dzokpé sangye shakya tubpa la

Just as in the past the tree goddess Prabhāvatī offered a bilva fruit

ཤིང་གི་ལྷ་མོ་འོད་འཆང་མས་ཤིང་ཏོག་བིལྦ་ཕུལ་བས།

shing gi lhamo ö changshing tok bilwa pulwé

To the completely and perfectly enlightened Buddha Śākyamuni,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་པའི་རྫས་སུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།

trashipé dzé su jingyi labpa dezhindu

Transforming it into an auspicious substance, in the same way, here and now,

དེང་འདིར་ཡང་རབ་ཏུ་གནས་པར་བྱས་པའི་རྟེན་རྣམས་དང་བདག་དང་སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོས་གཙོ་བྱས་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་བིལྦ་གི་རྫས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཤིན་ཏུ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

deng dir yang rabtu nepar jepé ten nam dang dak dang jinpé dakpö tso jé semchen tamché bilwa gi dzé la ten né shintu trashipar gyur chik

Through this substance of the bilva fruit, may everything be perfectly auspicious for all beings, especially the objects of this practice, as well as us and our patrons.


བིལྦ་རྒྱུ་རྐྱེན་འབྲས་བུར་བཅས་པའི་ཆོས།

bilwa gyukyen drebur chepé chö

This bilva represents causes, conditions and the fruit,

འཇིག་རྟེན་འཇིག་རྟེན་འདས་པའི་སྤྱོད་པ་ཀུན།

jikten jikten depé chöpa kün

All activity, both worldly and transcendent,

བྱང་ཆུབ་སྙིང་པོ་མཆོག་ཏུ་གྱུར་པ་ཡི།

changchub nyingpo chok tu gyurpa yi

Becomes the supreme essence of enlightenment.

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་དོན་ཀུན་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashikyang dön kün drub gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness may our every aim be accomplished!


སྔོན་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ།

ngön yangdakpar dzokpé sangye shakya tubpa la

Just as in the past the king of the gods Indra offered a conch shell spiralling to the right

ལྷའི་དབང་པོ་བརྒྱ་བྱིན་གྱིས་དུང་དཀར་པོ་གཡས་སུ་འཁྱིལ་བ་ཕུལ་བས།

lhé wangpo gyajin gyi dungkar po yé su khyilwa pulwé

To the completely and perfectly enlightened Buddha Śākyamuni,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་པའི་རྫས་སུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།

trashipé dzé su jingyi labpa dezhindu

Transforming it into an auspicious substance, in the same way, here and now,

དེང་འདིར་ཡང་རབ་ཏུ་གནས་པར་བྱས་པའི་རྟེན་རྣམས་དང་བདག་དང་སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོས་གཙོ་བྱས་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་དུང་གི་རྫས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཤིན་ཏུ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

deng dir yang rabtu nepar jepé ten nam dang dak dang jinpé dakpö tso jé semchen tamché dung gi dzé la ten né shintu trashipar gyur chik

Through this substance of the conch, may everything be perfectly auspicious for all beings, especially the objects of this practice, as well as us and our patrons.


དུང་ནི་ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྒྲ་རྣམས་སྒྲོགས་པའི་ཚུལ།

dung ni chö kyi dra nam drokpé tsul

The conch, which resounds with the sound of Dharma,

ཡེ་ཤེས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཉིད་དུ་དག་གྱུར་ཏེ།

yeshe gyatso nyi du dak gyur té

Is purified into an ocean of wisdom,

ཆོས་རྣམས་མ་ནོར་ཡོངས་སུ་སྟོན་པ་ཡི།

chö nam manor yongsu tönpa yi

Revealing all things perfectly and without error.

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་ཚིག་དབང་ཐོབ་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashikyang tsikwang tob gyur chik

Though this auspiciousness may we gain power over language!


སྔོན་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ།

ngön yangdakpar dzokpé sangye shakya tubpa la

Just as in the past the earth goddess Sthāvarā offered vermilion

སའི་ལྷ་མོ་བརྟན་མས་ལི་ཁྲི་ཕུལ་བས།

lhamo tenmé litri pulwé

To the completely and perfectly enlightened Buddha Śākyamuni,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་པའི་རྫས་སུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།

trashipé dzé su jingyi labpa dezhindu

Transforming it into an auspicious substance, in the same way, here and now,

དེང་འདིར་ཡང་རབ་ཏུ་གནས་པར་བྱས་པའི་རྟེན་རྣམས་དང་བདག་དང་སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོས་གཙོ་བྱས་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ལི་ཁྲི་གི་རྫས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཤིན་ཏུ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

deng dir yang rabtu nepar jepé ten nam dang dak dang jinpé dakpö tso jé semchen tamché litri gi dzé la ten né shintu trashipar gyur chik

Through this substance of the vermillion, may everything be perfectly auspicious for all beings, especially the objects of this practice, as well as us and our patrons.


ལི་ཁྲི་དམར་པོ་དབང་གི་རང་བཞིན་ཏེ།

litri marpo wang gi rangzhin té

This vermilion, which has the nature of magnetizing

ཆོས་རྣམས་མ་ལུས་དབང་དུ་བསྡུས་ནས་ཀྱང༌།

chö nam malü wang du kyang

And bringing all phenomena under our control,

ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་སྲིད་རབ་ཏུ་བརྟན་གྱུར་པའི།

chö kyi gyal si rabtu ten gyurpé

Transforms into an exceedingly stable kingdom of Dharma.

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་ཆོས་སྲིད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashikyang chö si ten gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness, may the domain of Dharma be secure!


སྔོན་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ།

ngön yangdakpar dzokpé sangye shakya tubpa la

Just as in the past the Lord of Secrets Vajrapāṇi offered mustard seeds

གསང་བའི་བདག་པོ་ཕྱག་ན་རྡོ་རྗེས་ཡུངས་ཀར་ཕུལ་བས།

sangwé dakpo chak na dorjé yungkar pulwé

To the completely and perfectly enlightened Buddha Śākyamuni,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་དོན་ཀུན་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashikyang dön kün drub gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness may our every aim be accomplished!

དེང་འདིར་ཡང་རབ་ཏུ་གནས་པར་བྱས་པའི་རྟེན་རྣམས་དང་བདག་དང་སྦྱིན་པའི་བདག་པོས་གཙོ་བྱས་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ཡུངས་ཀར་གི་རྫས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཤིན་ཏུ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

deng dir yang rabtu nepar jepé ten nam dang dak dang jinpé dakpö tso jé semchen tamché yungkar gi dzé la ten né shintu trashipar gyur chik

Through this substance of the mustard seed, may everything be perfectly auspicious for all beings, especially the objects of this practice, as well as us and our patrons.


ཡུངས་ཀར་རྡོ་རྗེའི་རིགས་ཏེ་ཐམས་ཅད་དུ།

yungkar dorjé rik té tamché du

These mustard seeds, which belong to the vajra family,

བགེགས་རྣམས་མ་ལུས་འཇོམས་པར་བྱེད་པ་ཡི།

gek nam malü jompar jepa yi

And have the perfect qualities of power and strength

མཐུ་སྟོབས་ཡོན་ཏན་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་གྱུར་པའི།

tutob yönten pün sum tsok gyurpé

To destroy entirely all hindrances and obstructing forces.

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་བགེགས་རྣམས་ཞི་གྱུར་ཅིག

tashikyang gek nam zhi gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness may all hindrances be overcome!

ཅེས་རྫས་བརྒྱད་དང༌།

With this, offer the eight substances.

Seven Emblems of Royalty

སྐབས་འགའ་ཞིག་ཏུ་རྒྱས་པ་ལ་མོས་ན།

If, on occasion, you wish to practise more elaborately, recite the following:

ལྷ་རྫས་ལས་བྱས་ལྟེ་བ་ཤིན་ཏུ་ཟླུམ།

lhadzé lé jé tewa shintu dum

Made from divine materials, its hub a perfect sphere,

རྩིབས་སྟོང་ལྡན་ཅིང་མུ་ཁྱུད་རབ་མཉམ་བཟང༌།

tsib tongden ching mukhyü rab nyam zang

With a thousand spokes and a perfectly even rim,

སྡང་བའི་དགྲ་ལས་རྣམ་པར་རྒྱལ་གྱུར་པའི།

dangwé dra lé nampar gyal gyurpé

It brings total victory over hostile opponents—

འཁོར་ལོ་རིན་ཆེན་དམ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག

khorlo rinchen dampé tashi shok

May we enjoy the auspiciousness of the precious wheel!


རིན་ཆེན་ངོ་བོ་ལྷ་རྫས་བཻངཱུར྄ཱ།

rinchen ngowo lhadzé baidura

The jewel, in essence, is the divine substance lapis lazuli,

ཀུན་ཏུ་དཔག་ཚད་ཙམ་དུ་སྣང་བྱེད་ཅིང༌།

küntu paktsé tsam du nangjé ching

Shining its brilliant light for a league in every direction,

དྲི་མེད་ཉིན་མོ་ཇི་བཞིན་མཚན་དེ་བཞིན།

drimé nyinmo jizhin tsen dezhin

As immaculate and bright by night as during the day—

ནོར་བུ་རིན་ཆེན་དམ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག

norbu rinchen dampé tashi shok

May we enjoy the auspiciousness of the precious jewel!


གཟུགས་མཛེས་ལྟ་ན་སྡུག་ཅིང་ཚུལ་བཟང་མ།

zuk dzé ta na duk ching tsul zang ma

Beautiful, captivating, and noble in manner,

པགས་པའི་མདོག་ལེགས་འཇམ་ཞིང་དྲི་མཆོག་ལྡན།

pakpé dok lek jam zhing dri chokden

With excellent complexion, gentle and perfumed,

ཡིད་འོང་འདོད་དགུའི་རེག་བྱ་དང་ལྡན་པའི།

yi ong dö gü rekja dang denpé

Lovely to behold, she inspires intense desire

བཙུན་མོ་རིན་ཆེན་དམ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག

tsünmo rinchen dampé tashi shok

May we enjoy the auspiciousness of the precious queen!


གང་ཡང་རྒྱལ་བ་མུ་ཏིག་མདངས་ལྡན་པས།

gangyang gyalwa mutik dang denpé

Victorious over all, and radiant as a pearl,

གསེར་སོགས་མང་པོ་ཐུབ་ལ་ཕུལ་བ་ལྟར།

ser sok mangpo tub la pulwa tar

Like one who offers plentiful gold and the like to the Buddha,

བཟོད་ལྡན་མཚུངས་པའི་ཁྱིམ་བདག་ནོར་ལྡན་པ།

zöden tsungpé khyimdak norden pa

A householder whose wealth is as vast as the earth itself—

བློན་པོ་རིན་ཆེན་དམ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག

lönpo rinchen dampé tashi shok

May we enjoy the auspiciousness of the precious minister!


ཡན་ལག་ཐམས་ཅད་ལེགས་སྐྱེས་ས་ལ་ནི།

yenlak tamché lekkyé sa la ni

With every limb perfectly developed,

རབ་གནས་གངས་ཅན་རི་འདྲ་གླང་པོ་ཆེ།

rabné gangchen ri dra langpo ché

Firm and steady, like a mountain, on the ground,

རྒྱལ་པོ་ལ་འོས་མཁའ་ལ་རབ་གྲོལ་བའི།

gyalpo la ö kha la rab drolwé

Fit for a king, and perfectly unimpeded in the air

གླང་པོ་རིན་ཆེན་དམ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག

langpo rinchen dampé tashi shok

May we enjoy the auspiciousness of the precious elephant!


ཐོ་རེངས་དུས་སུ་ཕྱོགས་རྣམས་མ་ལུས་པའི།

toreng su chok nam malüpé

Capable of travelling everywhere without exception,

ས་རྣམས་བསྐོར་ཞིང་སླར་ཡང་ལྡོག་བྱེད་ཅིང༌།

sa nam kor zhing laryang dok jé ching

Of galloping to the ends of the world and back again,

རྨ་བྱའི་མགྲིན་པའི་སྤུ་ལྟར་ཡིད་འོང་བའི།

majé drinpé pu tar yi ongwé

With a coat as beautiful as the throat of a peacock

རྟ་མཆོག་རིན་ཆེན་དམ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག

tachok rinchen dampé tashi shok

May we enjoy the auspiciousness of the precious horse!


འགྲོ་དང་ལྡོག་དང་ཀུན་ནས་འོང་གྱུར་པའི།

dro dang dok dang kün né ong gyurpé

Conqueror of the advancing and retreating forces,

མ་ལུས་བདུད་དཔུང་འཇོམས་པར་བྱེད་པ་ལ།

malü düpung jompar jepa la

The many hordes of Mara, who come from every direction,

དཔའ་བརྟན་འབྱོར་པའི་དཔུང་དང་བཅས་པ་ཡི།

pa ten jorpé pung dang chepa yi

Accompanied by your great armies, brave and steadfast—

དམག་དཔོན་རིན་ཆེན་དམ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག

makpön rinchen dampé tashi shok
