Pure Storehouse
浄蔵 (Skt Vimalagarbha; Jpn Jozo)

One of the two sons of King Wonderful Adornment who appear in the "King Wonderful Adornment" (twenty-seventh) chapter of the Lotus Sutra. According to this chapter, Pure Storehouse and his brother, Pure Eye, heard the Lotus Sutra from a Buddha named Cloud Thunder Sound Constellation King Flower Wisdom. They begged their mother, Pure Virtue, to go with them to hear him preach the sutra. She agreed, but urged them first to convince their father, King Wonderful Adornment, to go with them. The king was a devout believer in Brahmanism, so their mother suggested that they display supernatural powers to awaken him to the greatness of Buddhism. They followed her advice and demonstrated a number of feats before the king, such as walking in space and walking on water. Delighted, he asked to meet their teacher and went with his sons, his wife, his ministers and retinue, and many others to see the Buddha. Thereafter the king abdicated the throne in favor of his younger brother and renounced the secular world along with his wife, his sons, and subjects to practice the Buddha way. The "King Wonderful Adornment" chapter says that he is present at the ceremony of the Lotus Sutra on Eagle Peak as Bodhisattva Flower Virtue, and his queen Pure Virtue, as Bodhisattva Light Shining Adornment Marks, and his sons Pure Storehouse and Pure Eye, as Bodhisattva Medicine King and Bodhisattva Medicine Superior, respectively.
