Purification rituals at ancient Bouddhanath stupa

KATHMANDU: Purification rituals at the ancient stupa of Bouddhanath in Kathmandu began on Friday after its renovation in the wake of April 25, 2015 Nepal earthquake.

The Buddhist site, which is one of the World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley, was partially damaged by the devastating earthquake.

After three-day purification rituals, according to authorities, the Bouddhanath stupa would be opened to the public on November 22. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to inaugurate the Bouddhanath stupa on Tuesday.

It has been learned that Rs 230 million was spent for the renovation of the ancient shrine which is said to be first built in the fifth century.
