Refutation of Erroneous Doctrines,
摧邪輪 (Jpn Sai-jarin)
A work written in 1212 by Myoe, a priest of the Flower Garland (Kegon) school in Japan, in response to Honen's work The Nembutsu Chosen above All, which sets forth the doctrine that the Nembutsu, or the invoking of the name of Amida Buddha, alone should be practiced.
Myoe attacked Honen's treatise mainly for denying the necessity of arousing the aspiration for enlightenment and for comparing adherents of all teachings other than the Pure Land teachings to a band of robbers who prevent travelers from completing their journey, that is, who prevent practitioners of the Pure Land teachings from reaching the Pure Land.
