‘Supplication to Padmavajra’ (Guru Rinpoche) by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo
For the tenth day of the lunar month, celebrating Guru Rinpoche, Padmasambhava, I offer this new Supplication to Padmavajra (Tshokye Dorje: Lake-Born (or Lotus) Vajra) by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, spontaneously translated today.
The text can be found in his Collected Works. Padmavajra is one of the names of Padmasambhava. At the time of his birth in Uḍḍiyāna he was known as Padmakara or Padmasambhava, as well as Padmavajra. Any errors are mine. May it be of benefit!
Supplication to Padmavajra (Guru Rinpoche)
མཚོ་སྐྱེས་རྡོ་རྗེ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་པ
སྲས་བཅས་རྣམ་འདྲེན་ཀུན་གྱི་ཡེ་ཤེས་སྐུ༎
དྲན་པས་ཡིད་བཞིན་དངོས་གྲུབ་སྩོལ་མཛད་པ༎
སྐྱབས་ཀུན་འདུས་ཞལ་མཚོ་སྐྱེས་རྡོ་རྗེ་ལ༎
སྙིང་ནས་གསོལ་འདེབས་བུ་ལ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་དགོངས༎
Primordial-awareness kāya[1], guide of all ‘offspring’, whom
By remembering, bestows wished-for accomplishments.
Embodied ‘face’ of all refuges, Padmavajra [[[Lake-Born Vajra]]]
Think compassionately of this man[2]’s heartfelt supplication!
བདག་ཅག་མགོན་པོ་ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་རྗེས་སྒྲུབ་ན༎
ནམ་ཡང་གཞན་གྱི་དབང་དུ་མི་འགྲོ་བར༎
རང་ཉིད་ཁོ་ནའི་རྣམ་དཔྱོད་འཁྲུལ་མེད་པས༎
རྒྱལ་བ་དགྱེས་པའི་ལམ་ལ་སློབ་པར་མཛོད༎
May we follow you, our protector,
Never going under the influence of others, and
Only with one’s own undeluded discrimination
Train on the Victor’s delightful path!
དབེན་ཞིང་ཉམས་དགའ་ཞི་བའི་སྨོན་ལྗོངས་སུ༎
འཆད་དང་སྒྲུབ་པཻ་དམ་བཅའ་མི་གཡེལ་བས༎
རླབས་ཆེན་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཀྱིས༎
ཡོངས་རྫོགས་བསྟན་འགྲོའི་དོན་ཆེན་སྒྲུབ་ནུས་མཛོད༎
In a peaceful, joyful, isolated place of aspiration,
With indefatigable commitment to listening and practice, and
The tremendous blessing of the Bodhisattva’s enlightened activities
May the power to benefit beings and the perfect teachings be accomplished !
འཆི་མེད་ཚེ་དང་བསོད་ནམས་བློ་གྲོས་རྒྱས༎
སྲིད་དང་ཞི་བའི་འབྱོར་བས་མངོན་མཐོ་ཞིང༎
བསམ་སྦྱོར་མཐའ་དག་ཆོས་བཞིན་འགྲུབ་པ་ལས༎
བར་ཆད་མཚན་མ་ནམ་ཡང་མི་འབྱུང་མཛོད༎
May immortality, merit and intelligence expand.
May wealth of the higher realms of samsara and nirvana and
All thoughts and actions, in accordance with Dharma, be accomplished.
May anything which could be termed ‘obstacle’ never arise!
མདོར་ན་ཇི་ལྟར་སྨོན་པའི་དོན་རྣམས་ཀུན༎
གེགས་མེད་མྱུར་བ་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་བ་ཡི༎
ཕུན་ཚོགས་ཕན་བདེའི་དགའ་སྟོན་རྨད་བྱུང་བས༎
དགེ་ལེགས་སྣང་བ་རྒྱས་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་སྩོལ༎
In sum, may the benefit of all aspirations ,
Be quickly accomplished without hindrance.
May the marvelous festivity of bliss, benefit and abundance, and
Auspicious increase of appearances of virtue and excellence be granted!
དུས་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པའི་སྒོ་འཕར་གསར་དུ་དབྱེ་བའི་སྐབས་མཉྫུ་གྷོ་ཥས་སྙིང་ནས་གསོལ་བ་ངེས་པར་སིདྡྷི་རསྟུ༎
