Priests performed on Saturday a three-hour rite, called ‘Garmmovasanaagnipranayanam Vasordhara Poornahuthi,' at Athirathram, an ancient Vedic ritual, being held at Mattathurkunnu near Kodakara.
‘“Vasordhara' is performed for peace and prosperity,” said Mattathurkunnu Athirathram Thretagni Foundation secretary P.K. Hari Namboodiri. ‘Pravargyam,' a rite held daily from the fourth day of the ritual, got completed on Saturday. Goat's milk, mixed with ghee, is offered to Aswani Devas during ‘Pravargyam'.
The rite, ‘Deeksha Visargam,' was held on Saturday. Extraction of the juice of ‘Somalatha', called ‘Prata Savanam', will be held in two phases on Sunday. Kaimukku Raman Somayajippadu is Yajamanan (chief) and his wife, Aryadevi Pathanadi, is the Yajamana Patni of Athirathram.
After the rites on the 12th day, Somayajippadu will get the title ‘Akkithiripadu'.
