Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: It transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural and the spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity." - Albert Einstein "The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism. " - Albert Einstein

In the past, even today, concepts like emptiness is not nothingness, very tiny invincible scale, hologram, interacting Universe, time is relative, multiverse, error correction, hundreds of trillions of stars mentioned in Buddhism are regarded as philosophical rather than science. Buddhism has been talking about the very small to the very large for more than two thousand years. Today, physicists and cosmologists are excited over the same concepts and ideas.

Superstring Theory and Quantum Field Theory are two hot theories in particle physics. Both assume all particles arise from emptiness or field. There are a total of 8 dimensions in their assumptions - a multiverse with 6 dimensions + 1 dimension of time + 1 dimension of space. Now physicists think that space is not a fundamental physical property where interaction is more fundamental than space. As Einstein’s General Relativity unified space, time, and gravity, time could also be not fundamental. In the physical world, all particles arise out of interactions. A proton or a neutron is formed by quarks interacting with pi-meson, electrons interacting with each other with photons, molecules are formed with atoms exchanging electrons.

We are told that we could be living in a hologram. Scientists concluded that there is a hologram associated to every object in the Universe - black holes, stars, planets, chairs, people, and all. Basically, 3-D information is encoded on a 2-D surface. Physicists believes information of all objects are never lost and are stored in the hologram and can be used later to reconstruct the objects to give the objects a new life.

Consciousness arises out of emptiness in Buddhism is a well known concept. In the Yogacara school of Buddhism, every object in the Universe arise not just from emptiness and but also from 8 consciousness - quite similar to the 8 dimension assumption of both Superstring Theory and Quantum Field Theory. In Buddhism, the first 6 consciousness are eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind.

However, if one looks at the evolution of the Universe to life forms till today, these 6 consciousness can be thought of as generic functions. The life on Earth started with just single cells without body, sense-organs, and brains. It is evolution that has the 6 consciousness turning on the various genes of our familiar sense-organs. One does not need to go far to prove as babies are being born everyday from single fertilized eggs without sense-organs. Therefore, the 6 consciousness originally are generic or what the physicists think of as multiverse with 6 dimensions.

The 7th consciousness is popularly known as ego-self. However, the Yogacara doctrine states the 7th consciousness is closely related to how a being is experiencing time relatively. It is similar to the 1 dimension of time but more. The 7th consciousness also has the ability, among many functions, to project self as external object using the information stored in the 8th consciousness. In addition, it has the ability to self-check which is similar to the error-correction code in DNA and a research done on Super-symmetry.

The 8th consciousness is popularly known as a storage of seeds. It can be thought of as a dynamic and interactive data base constantly recording information about the objects or beings. It also constantly record-match with external environment. When records are matched new condition arises. This is similar to the hologram discovered by physicists recently.

There are 5 universal-interactive (aware, touch, sense, perceive, and volition), one can think of it like a small set of computer instructions, that is constantly running at very tiny scale - in all the 8 consciousness. All objects and beings arise out of the 8 consciousness through the 5 universal-interactive with the environment (other 8 consciousness).

Lastly, what is gravity? It can be thought of as the result of consciousness vibration in exhibiting their functions - 2 were mentioned earlier among many. One is the 7th consciousness’ ability to project self from information recorded in the 8th consciousness. Second is the 5 universal-interactive. The 5 universal-interactive is 5 out of 100 Dharmas of the Yogacara Schools.

Buddhism and its Yogacara School provide a very solid structure showing the linkage between mind and matter since 2,000 years ago. This is exactly what physicists have been trying to do with Quantum Field theory, Quantum Gravity, and Superstring Theory.

Hope physicists can test out a model with multiverse with 8 dimensions (without space and time) with a better understanding of the Yogacara doctrines. This is what Einstein has been looking for.

"1 want to know how God created this world. 1 am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts; the rest are details." - Albert Einstein
