A work attributed to either Maitreya or Asanga and translated into Chinese in the mid-seventh century by Hsüan-tsang. One of the principal treatises of the Dharma Characteristics (Chin Fa-hsiang; Jpn Hosso) school, it consists

of one hundred volumes and elucidates the seventeen stages through which the practitioners of the Consciousness-Only Doctrine advance toward Enlightenment. The work quotes the Revelation of the Profound Secrets Sutra and explains the [[Consciousness-
