five heavens of purity
五浄居天 (Skt shuddhavasa; Jpn go-jogo-ten )
Also, five pure-dwelling heavens or heavens of purity. The five highest heavens among the eighteen heavens in the World of Form.
They are
(1) the Heaven of No Vexations (Skt Avriha);
(2) the Heaven of No Heat (Atapa), a realm that is free of distress;
(3) the Reward Appearing Heaven (Sudrisha), where one is able to receive the reward of one's good deeds;
(4) the Heaven of Clear Perception (Sudarshana); and
(5) the Akanishtha Heaven, the highest Heaven of the World of Form.
Those reaching the stage of the Non-returner, or the second highest of the Four stages of enlightenment taught in early Buddhism, are said to be reborn among these heavens.
