Pith instructions (Skt. upadeśa; Tib. མན་ངག་, mengak, Wyl. man ngag) are the most essential and practical instructions on a given topic of the teachings, often transmitted orally.

In the Vajrayana, there is a common division into tantras, agamas or commentaries, and pith instructions.
