The Elemental New Year is used in the calculation of an Elemental horoscope to define a person's age.

The New Year in Elemental astrology changes on the 1st day of the new moon of the 11th lunar month, which is always a Tiger month. This is considered to be the astrological New Year.

At this time all astrological spirits change and their nature becomes dual. This takes place in December around the Winter Solstice when the Sun has the shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere. Then the Sun changes direction northward, and in the same way changes the position of astrological influences. The element and animal sign will change as well the nine Mewas (magic square numbers) and the eight Parkha trigrams.

11. month 12. month 1. month 2. month
Tiger Rabbit Dragon Snake
3. month 4. month 5. month 6. month
Horse Sheep Monkey Bird
7. month 8. month 9. month 10. month

Example: 1996 is the Fire Mouse year until December 10th 1996.

December 11th 1996 is then first day of the 11th lunar month and begins the Fire Ox year.
