Kushinagara (Skt. Kuśinagara; Tib. རྩ་མཆོག་གྲོང་, ཀུ་ཤའི་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་, Wyl. ku sha'i grong khyer) - the town where Buddha Shakyamuni passed into parinirvana.

Kusinagara (Kusinara) ; The modern Kasia.

The ‘little wattle-and-daub township in the midst of the jungle’ where the Buddha passed into Parinirvāna.

One of the four Holy Places of Buddhism. (q.v.).

At the time of the Buddha, it was part of the Malla confederacy. In modern India,

it is close to the village of Kasia, which is to the east of Gorapur.
