Sañjiva: It is explained that in this hell, the guardians of the hell (niraya-pala) chop and cut the hell-beings with glowing weapons.

But as long as their evil deeds remain unexhausted, they regain their lives after the punishment is over.

Hence this hell is called Sañjiva—’the reviver”.
