ten appearances (十相).
 As stated in the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra (T12n0375), the appearances of a sentient being are
  (1) sights,
  (2) sounds,
  (3) scents,
  (4) flavors,
  (5) tactile sensations,
  (6) birth,
  (7) staying,
  (8) death,
  (9) male, and
  (10) female (see four appearances).
