Light Sound Heaven

光音天 (Skt Abhasvara; Jpn Ko’on-ten)

Also known as Abhasvara Heaven, or Utmost Light and Purity Heaven. One of the eighteen heavens in the world of form, specifically the highest of the three heavens in the second meditation heaven of the world of form. The world of form comprises the four meditation heavens and is further subdivided

into eighteen heavens. The three heavens of the second meditation heaven are, in ascending order, the Minor Light Heaven (Skt Pari-ttabha), the Infinite Light Heaven (Apramanabha), and the Light Sound Heaven. The inhabitants in this last heaven, or the heavenly beings in this realm,

converse by means of light. When they speak, they emit rays of pure light, rather than sound, which function as words. Abha of the Sanskrit name Abhasvara means light, and svara means voice or sound.
