He went to school in Dehra Dun until Class 2 and then became a monk at Tashi Kyil Monastery at the age of eight. For sixteen years he studied Buddhist rituals and philosophy while also working at the monastery. He recently finished his studies of the Six Perfections and is presently studying the Middle Way Philosophy at the Dharma Institute at Tashi Kyil Monastery.
