[[andae]]: The simplest form of robe that a [[Buddhist]] priest wears when he is either resting or at work. The [[andae]] is one of the three robes *[[sanne]] 三衣, traditionally owned by every [[Buddhist]] priest. A large number of [[Buddhist]] statues, especially *nyorai 如来 images, are shown in this robe. Since it was usually made by sewing together five pieces of rectangular cloth, the robe came to be known as gojou-kesa 五条袈裟 (a five-strip robe).
