畢鉢羅窟 (Skt; Jpn Hippara-kutsu)
A cave located near Rajagriha in Magadha, India.
According to one Buddhist tradition, Pippali Cave was the site of the First Buddhist Council, held to compile Shakyamuni Buddha's teachings immediately after his death.
A different tradition has it that the site of the First Buddhist Council was Sapta-parna Cave, or Cave of the Seven Leaves, also located near Rajagriha.
Some suppose that Pippali Cave is another name for the Cave of the Seven Leaves.
It is said that Mahakashyapa, one of Shakyamuni's ten major disciples, who led the compilation of the sutras and the vinaya (rules of monastic discipline) at the First Buddhist Council, used this cave as his dwelling and place of practice.
