six domains (ṣad-dhātu, 六界, 六大). A sentient being is made of the six domainsearth, water, fire, wind, space, and consciousness—and appears to have these features: solid substance, fluid, heat, motion, space within the body, and consciousness. A non-sentient thing (plant or nonliving thing) is made of the first five domains (see four domains).
