Shuryasoma
須利耶蘇摩 (n.d.) (Skt; Jpn Suriyasoma or Shuriyasoma)
A prince of Yarkand who lived in Central Asia in the fourth century and a teacher of Kumarajiva. He instructed Kumarajiva in the Mahayana teachings. According to The Afterword to the Lotus Sutra Translation by Seng-chao, one of Kumarajiva's major disciples, Shuryasoma was well versed in the Mahayana sutras and bequeathed the Lotus Sutra to Kumarajiva, saying: "The sun of the Buddha has set in the west, but its lingering rays shine over the northeast.
