Praising the Profundity of the Lotus Sutra
[法華玄賛] (Chin Fa-hua-hsüan-tsan; Jpn Hokke-genzan )
A commentary on the Lotus Sutra by Tz'u-en (632-682), the founder of the Chinese Dharma Characteristics (Fa-hsiang) school, written from the viewpoint of the Consciousness-Only doctrine. It criticizes T'ient'ai's interpretation of the Lotus Sutra, asserting that the one vehicle teaching set forth in the sutra is a mere expedient, and that the three vehicle teaching represents the truth.
