three kinds of mind
[三心] (Jpn san-jin )
Three requisites for rebirth in the Pure Land of Perfect Bliss set forth in the Meditation on the Buddha Infinite Life Sutra.
They are a sincere mind,
a mind of deep faith,
and a mind of resolve to be reborn in the Pure Land.
In The Nembutsu Chosen above All, Honen (1133-1212), the founder of the Japanese Pure Land (Jodo) school, emphasized these three kinds of mind as attitudes Pure Land believers should assume when reciting the name of Amida Buddha.
