Five Bhikshus; (五比丘) The first five of Buddha's converts:

Ajnata-Kaundinya,
Asvajit,
Bhadrika,
Dasabala-Kasyapa, and
Mahanama-Kulika.

They were the first five disciples that Shakyamuni preached when he became Buddha.

Five Bhikshus

The first five of Buddha's converts:

in Pali (P) - in Sanskrit (S)

1. Ajnata-Kaundinya - Ajnata-Kondanna
2. Bhadrika - Bhaddiya
3. Asvajit - Assagi
4. Vaspa - Vappa
5. Mahanaman - Mahanama

They followed Shakyamuni to practice asceticism, but left him when he abandoned such practices. Later, when Shakyamuni attained Buddhahood, his first sermon was preached in Deer Park to these men, who became his first disciples.
