Another state of mind is the diffused mind. A diffused mind – a mind in diffusion. It means it runs to the past, runs to the future, runs to several objects without any control. At that time, the mind is said to be diffused. If you can identify that diffused state and come to be mindful and aware of that diffusion as and when it happens, as and when it arises, then that diffusion goes down. That is the nature of this behaviour and that is the power of mindfulness to tranquilise various arisings. So you must identify and understand a diffused state of mind as it arises.
