The Jātakamālā, ‘Garland of Jātakas’ is a retelling of 34 Jātaka stories written in Sanskrit in the 4th century CE by the Monk Āryasūra. It is widely considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Sanskrit literature. Many of the carved panels on the great stūpa of Borobudur on the island of Java in Indonesia depict scenes from the Jātakamālā.
