Kum-Bum ; Enormous Bst. monastery in N.E. Tibet known as ‘the Monastery of 100,000 Images’ from the tree, still preserved in the grounds, each leaf of which shows a Tibetan sacred character.
As the birthplace of Tsong-kha-pa (q.v.), founder of the Gelugpa or Reformed School, it is regarded with enormous veneration.
Mme. David-Neel (q.v.) lived there for some years, and the eldest brother of the Dalai Lama, Thubten Norbu, was at one time Abbot.
