Obscurations
Obscurations (Tib. drib pa; Wyl. sgrib pa) — what hinders us from realizing our true nature.
obscurations (Skt: avarana)
Also known as obstructions; the negative imprints left on the mind by negative karma and delusion, which obscure the mind. The disturbing-thought obscurations (Tib: nyön-drib) obstruct attainment of liberation and the more subtle obscurations to knowledge (Tib: she-drib) obstruct the attainment of enlightenment.
See also the two obscurations.
Subdivisions
- two obscurations: emotional and cognitive
- three obscurations, if habitual obscurations, an extremely subtle form of cognitive obscurations, are added to the previous two
- four obscurations: if karmic obscurations are added to the previous three obscurations
