A Prayer for the Spread of the Teachings of the Katok Tradition

ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི།

om swasti

Oṃ svasti.

ཕྱོགས་དུས་རྩ་གསུམ་རྒྱལ་བ་སྲས་བཅས་དང་། །

chok dü tsa sum gyalwa sé ché dang

Through the power and truth of the Three Roots, victorious buddhas and their heirs throughout the whole of space and time,

སྔ་འགྱུར་ཆོས་སྐྱོང་སྲུང་མའི་བདེན་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས། །

ngagyur chökyong sungmé den tob kyi

And the dharma protectors and guardians of the Ancient Translations,

ཐུབ་བསྟན་སྤྱི་དང་ཁྱད་པར་ཨོ་རྒྱན་རྗེའི། །

tubten chi dang khyepar orgyen jé

May this vital axis of Śākyamuni's teachings in general and the teachings of the Lord of Oḍḍiyāna in particular,

བསྟན་པའི་སྲོག་ཤིང་བཀའ་གཏེར་འབྱུང་ཁུངས་ཆེ། །

tenpé sokshing kater jungkhung ché

The sublime tradition of Deshek Pobpa Tayé,1

བདེ་གཤེགས་སྤོབས་པ་མཐའ་ཡས་རིང་ལུགས་མཆོག །

deshek pobpa tayé ringluk chok

Magnificent source of both kama and terma,

སྲིད་མཐའི་བར་དུ་མི་ཉམས་དར་ཞིང་རྒྱས། །

si té bardu mi nyam dar zhing gyé

Remain without ever declining until the end of existence and spread far and wide.

ཁྲིམས་ལྡན་འདུས་པའི་ཆུ་གཏེར་འཕེལ་བ་དང་། །

trimden düpé chuter pelwa dang

May the ocean-like community of ethical vow-holders increase,

བསླབ་གསུམ་དྲི་མ་མེད་པས་ཐུགས་རྒྱུད་ཕྱུག །

lab sum drima mepé tukgyü chuk

Their minds replete with the three immaculate trainings.

བཤད་དང་སྒྲུབ་པའི་བྱ་བས་དུས་འདའ་ཞིང་། །

shé dang drubpé jawé dü da zhing

May they devote their time to education and meditative accomplishment

ཡང་དག་ལྟ་བ་སྒོམ་དང་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡིས། །

yangdak tawa gom dang chöpa yi

And by means of the authentic view, meditation and conduct,

ཤཱཀྱའི་བསྟན་པའི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་འཛིན་པ་དང་། །

shakyé tenpé gyaltsen dzinpa dang

May they hold aloft their victory banner of Śākyamuni's teachings

ངེས་གསང་སྙིང་པོ་ཕྱོགས་བརྒྱར་ཁྱབ་གྱུར་ཅིག །

ngé sang nyingpo chok gyar khyab gyur chik

And cause the definitive Secret Essence to flourish in every direction.

ཅེས་པའང་ཤིང་ཁྱི་སྣྲོན་ཟླའི་ཚེས་བརྒྱད་ལ་འོག་མིན་གཉིས་པ་ཀཿཐོག་གི་གཙུག་ལག་ཁང་ཆེན་པོར་འཇམ་དབྱངས་བློ་གྲོས་རྒྱ་མཚོས་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པ་བཞིན་འགྲུབ་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག །མངྒ་ལཾ།། །།

Thus, on the eighth day of the jyaiṣṭha (fifth) month of the Wood Dog year, Jamyang Lodrö Gyatso offered this prayer in the great temple of Katok, the second Akaniṣṭha. May it be accomplished. Maṅgalam.
