10. The Abode of Consecration

The Flower Garland Sutra says:

"These Bodhisattvas attain and realize ten kinds of wisdom:

  1. Shaking up and stirring countless worlds
  2. Shining on and illuminating countless worlds
  3. Abiding in and embracing countless worlds
  4. Going into countless worlds
  5. Adorning and purifying countless worlds
  6. Opening up and indicating the Dharma to countless living beings
  7. Observing countless living beings
  8. Recognizing the spiritual roots of countless living beings
  9. Making countless living beings strive to enter into enlightenment
  10. Making countless living beings attain self-mastery and control

These Bodhisattvas' lives and deeds, their spiritual penetrations and transformations, their wisdom of the past, present and future, and their realization of the spiritual lands of the Buddhas and the sphere that is the spiritual realm of the mind are all impossible to know. Even the Bodhisattva that is the Prince of the Dharma is not able to recognize this.

The Bodhisattva should encourage the study of ten things:

  1. Wisdom of the past, present and future
  2. Wisdom of the Buddhist teaching (Dharma)
  3. Unhesitating wisdom of the spiritual realm
  4. Boundless wisdom of the spiritual realm
  5. Wisdom that fills all the worlds
  6. Wisdom that universally illuminates all the world
  7. Wisdom that abides in and embraces all the worlds
  8. Wisdom of knowing all living beings
  9. Wisdom of knowing all things
  10. Wisdom of knowing the boundlessness of the Buddhas

This is to make the Bodhisattvas foster progress in the Wisdom of All Kinds so that they grasp what they hear without having to depend upon others to explain it."
