Dr. Alexander Berzin

When we understand karma to mean the compulsiveness that drives us to act, speak and think in uncontrollable ways, we realize its role as a true source of our sufferings and problems. Acting compulsively causes us unhappiness, brings recurring difficulties in life, and prevents us from being of best help to others. To rid ourselves of the compulsiveness of karma and the problems it engenders, we need ethical self-discipline to refrain from destructive behavior, from grasping at fantasies about ourselves and from self-centered concern.
