Bodhisattva Boundless Practices
Boundless Practices
無辺行菩薩 (Skt Anantacharitra; Jpn Muhengyoᆳbosatsu)
One of the four leaders of the Bodhisattvas of the Earth. In the "Emerging from the Earth" (fifteenth) chapter of the Lotus Sutra, Bodhisattva Boundless Practices appears from beneath the earth together with the other Bodhisattvas of the Earth. The chapter reads: "Among these bodhisattvas were four leaders. The first was called Superior Practices, the second was called Boundless Practices, the third was called Pure Practices, and the fourth was called Firmly Established Practices." According to Tao-hsien's Supplement to "The Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sutra," of the four virtues of the Buddha's life—true self, eternity, purity, and happiness—that these four bodhisattvas represent, Boundless Practices represents eternity.
