place of practice
道場 (Jpn dojo )
A place where one carries out Buddhist practice to gain enlightenment. This term, which appears often in Chinese translations of Buddhist scriptures, may also be translated as "place of the way." Initially, this referred to the place where one gains "the way" or enlightenment, and specifically the place under the pippala, or bodhi , tree where Shakyamuni entered into meditation and gained enlightenment. This is referred to in Sanskrit as bodhimanda, literally, the seat of enlightenment. Hence it is also called the place of meditation, or the place of enlightenment.
