Kārli ; Buddhist Assembly Hall or Stūpa house cut out of rock face in the Western Ghats between Bombay and Poona.
C. first century B.C. Main Hall is largest such in existence, being 124 feet by 25 feet by 40 feet in height, as large as nave of Norwich Cathedral.
The Stūpa itself, and the Buddha Rūpa with feet down, is a magnificent specimen of early Bst. art.
