Devaputta; devaputta : [m.] son of a god

A city in India, fifteen leagues from Pātaliputta. In it was the Sīhakumbha Vihāra.

It was the birthplace of Rūpadevī and Kañcanadevī.

At one time the Buddha's Bowl Relic was there and celebrations were held in its honor.

The king of Devaputta, in the time of Asoka, was also called Devaputta. Ras.i.25, 34, 80.
