Kataumi
片海 Kataumi
The birthplace of Nichiren (1222-1282).A place on the Pacific coast of thirteenth-century Japan in Tojo Village of Awa Province (the southern part of present-day Chiba Prefecture).In his writing The Tripitaka Master Shanwuwei, Nichiren states, "I, Nichiren, am the son of a humble family, born along the shore in Kataumi of Tojoin the province of Awa, a person who has neither authority nor virtue" (169).
