power of self
自力 (Jpn jiriki )

One's own power or effort to seek enlightenment. Power of self is contrasted with power of another, or the absolute power of a Buddha or a bodhisattva to save people. The power of self refers to the power of one's own virtuous acts and efforts in Buddhist practice to produce benefit and enable one to attain enlightenment.

See also power of another.
